…and proud daughter of two unsung civil rights activists, an inter-racial couple who secretly dated for over a decade before deciding America had overcome in the seventies. They were optimists! I am their only child together.

Having older parents set me apart from my peers early on and has gifted me with a unique POV who authentically pens and brings to life the voices of multiple generations.

I have been a right brain most of my life from playing “make pretend” to….

writing first poem in 5th grade called Purple Come Alive. My mother taped it to her desk at her job in New York City.

writing my first play in in 7th grade when I tackled my first book adaptation. After writing my first play in 7th grade, Miss Morris, my brown sugarplum of a Creative Writing teacher gave me an “A” and told me I, “had a good ear for dialogue”. I charged the battery of my Energizer bunny and I kept on going! I took Creative Writing classes all the way until I graduated from high school.

After taking the required playwriting elective, I took Playwriting II. After that I successfully petitioned for the creation of Playwriting III which I took along with classes in screenwriting and fiction before graduating with a BFA IN DRAMA FROM HOWARD UNIVERSITY.

AFTER GRADUATING HOWARD…

I took off into the unknown, shaking stages with what evolved into my crowd-pleasing “hip hop Wonder Years” solo play, Babygirl: media-codependa-lova-holic, which has since grown up to be a TV pilot and multi-fellowship finalist.

In 2026, I received the Pink Among Men Fellowship and am currently in pre-production on Babygirl’s play adaptation, TRUE COLORS. Babygirl’s onstage sequel, The Good Daughter & The Do Gooder was a New Humanitas New Voices finalist and more importantly, a love letter to my incredibly unique woke-before-her-time mother, her social justice work, and my caregiver journey with her.

Today I make my mark on the world through words as a creative multi-hyphenate. New York’s Tri-State Area made me, and 80s hip hop shaped me.

KAYPRI: THE PRODUCER & DIRECTOR

My production company Priscilla Belle Productions is dedicated to sharing stories that have been neglected by mainstream media. I have associate produced short films including the multi-award winning Superman Doesn’t Steal, produced my two solo plays, published my mother’s autobiography for her 80th birthday, wrote and directed the AARP award-winning PSA The Baton (which led to a feature in The Wall Street Journal). My directorial debut, White Tears will be coming to a theater near you soon! Followed up by True Colors the film adaptation of Babygirl.

My years as a caregiver taught me many lessons. Now that my mother Dorothy www.dorothystory.com has received her wings, I still continue to honor her. I will be remount The Good Daughter and release the new revised edition of her book!
